Death Penalty for Bloggers

March 25th, 2009

If you’re one of the estimated 45,000+ bloggers in Iran, be careful — that wacky country  is contemplating imposing the death penalty on bloggers who violate “Islamic law” — that is, for writing about activities such as adultery, homosexual behavior, or drug use. While the world races into the internet age, some people seem determined to race back into the middle ages. Anybody wanna register a dot.IR domain?

Book Review: “The Huffington Post Complete Guide to Blogging”

March 15th, 2009

The Huffington Post  has shot to the top of charts of blogging since launching in 2005. Now they have a reporter assigned to the White House Press Corps. We have read many books on blogging, considering that Rich Dog Millionaire is a blog. We are always trying to improve things. Many of the books we’ve read, strangely — or maybe not so — have been written by techno-geeks. These geeks started up a blog five or more years ago, have achieved a certain amount of success, and now they have written books, even if they aren’t writers, even if they can’t really write a book. There is one book — we will not mention it — in which the guy literally lists pages — and pages — of HTML language that, I guess, we are suppose to somehow copy from his printed book and paste into our blogs, for one reason or another.

This Huffington Post book is different, and as a result, is refreshing. Several critics have complained that the book is light on detailed information, with wide blank borders and a lot of sidetracks and self-promotion about the Post. Yes, but it is a fun and enjoyable read, without any crazy HTML code. And BTW, they do things that well-researched books should do, like define blogs and give us the history of blogs. Don’t look for money-making blog ideas in this book. Rather, sit back and enjoy a nice read about blogging — and the community of blogging. A lot of existing books about blogging seem isolated in their perspective. This is the first book we have read that discusses blogging in social, community terms. And this might give you one of the edges you need to succeed: The Huffington Post Complete Guide to Blogging

How to Set Up a Blog — Watch These Free Videos

March 10th, 2009

These guys are great teachers — calm, cool, and thorough. They have ten videos and you can watch them all at www.becomeablogger.com.   They recommend WordPress, which is what we use. We disagree with them on the hosting. When you watch Gideon and Yaro’s videos, you will learn how to upload WordPress on a webhost using a FTP client, arguably the most difficult part of setting up your blog. OORR you could just use Blue Host, where you can accomplish that task with one or two clicks — instant installation.

Heres a link to Blue Host: Host Unlimited Domains – 1 Account $6.95 Per Month

BTW, if you don’t know this already, there’s two ways to set up a WordPress blog — 1) Where it’s hosted for you — www.wordpress.com or 2) Where you download it and install it on your own domain and server host of your choice — www.wordpress.org . The way described above is the dot.org way — this is the way you wanna do it for business. If you have your blog on the dot.com version of WordPress, you do not own your domain.

“Blogging to the Bank”

March 2nd, 2009

As bloggers, we’ve been asked if there’s any product — ebooks, videos, etc — we’d recommend for how to make money blogging. One of us recently got Rob Benwell’s “Blogging to the Bank.” The package includes several e-books that focus on specific, singular things you can do to maximize the profitability of your blog, step by step. He has some cool ideas that will jump-start your blog. We like that he focuses on the marketing of blogs, and it costs only $37. We’ll let you know about some other resources as we come across them. BTW, if your blogging for dollars, you definitely need to bookmark Problogger.net — where the professional bloggers go. Darren Rowse has built a fantastic site for learning how to add income streams to your blog.
